Alexxandra's my full name. You can call me that if you like. Most people call me Alexx, I try to get people to call me Sascha for short, and I had a friend who used to call me Lexi. You can choose your own short form if you really like - as long as you don't call me Sandy or Sandra!
Often I'm lost in my own dreamworld of the 18th century, the characters of my novel, and a beautiful soundtrack.
"My mind is something like the ghost of an ancient, wandering about the world and trying mentally to construct it as it used to be, in spite of ruin and confusing changes." George Eliot, Middlemarch
"Life is too short to spend hoping that the perfectly arched eyebrow or hottest new lip shade will mask an ugly heart." Kevyn Aucoin
This is who I am. In the real world, I'm a 22 year old classics graduate. I'm usually asked what that is, so for those who don't know - it's everything to do with Ancient Greece and Rome.
I'm from and live in Perth, Scotland, whose two biggest claims to fame, in my eyes, are that it's the Perth that Australia named their namesake city after, and it's one of the places Victor Frankenstein passes through.
I can speak German, French, Ancient Greek and Latin (the latter three lesser so), but I usually only journal in English.
What I do I'm currently looking for a job, and have been since graduation. But I'm volunteering in a charity shop for the UK's biggest veterinarian charity.
I write novels, and poetry, and dabble in songwriting as well, though I'd love to learn piano and/or guitar so that they would progress past merely lyrics.
My hobbies are reading, writing, photography, learning, cooking, vlogging, friends, and fashion.
My ~other half~ but in a non-creepy way I am a twin, and my brother, Rich, is here on LJ too. I talk about him quite often, but mostly in conjunction to what I'm also doing. We're very close - neither of us has ever spent a full 24 hours alone or even apart, even through hospital stays. He feels like the other half of my soul. He's one of the people I most admire, because he's been through a lot of setbacks and hardships, yet keeps his head high and complains less than I do! We understand each other perfectly, and while our interests generally match, they tend to do so differently - we like the same music, for example, but we order them from best to worst very very differently.
Here's whose names you'll be seeing in my journal Mostly the family: My parents Brother: Rich (22) Three sisters: Tracy (33), Emma (28), and Kim (17). Their children: Ellie (1); Danny (11) and Carly (4); Riley (born in August 2012).
Extra detail about some hobbies Photography's currently no more than a hobby; I don't think I'd be interested to do it professionally. I completed a 365 photo project in 2011, which I was half-impressed with. You can hit my 'photo' tag to see some of my stuff, if you've added me. I think my Facebook albums are open to everyone, so have a look if you're interested!
I began vlogging in summer 2012, mainly to conquer the last confidence hurdle: video. My videos are not excellent; in fact, I began by getting ideas from fashion and beauty vloggers I enjoy. But I continue, and my self-esteem regarding videos is now high :D. I shall try to jazz things up as I go along, and suggestions for topical videos and readings are always welcome!
Attention, potential friends! This is where YOU come in. In an LJ friend, I'm looking for someone who wants to make genuine friendships, something that's more than cookie-cutter comments once in a while on each other's journals. I want someone who is less monotonous with their posts, who has something to offer, who is happy with mutual interaction. I am also interested in email and snail mail pen pals, and possibly meeting up in person (but this would not be until we've been friends for a while and are both very okay with the idea).
I don't mind at all people who are not very like me - I don't want a clone of me, after all - but if you're radically different, in a bad way, where we clash etc., then I will defriend you. I've done the whole 'toxic' friends thing, and the 'drama' friendships, and I'd rather leave them in the past where they belong. If you're from another walk of life from me, but we can chat about these differences and discuss serious matters from opposing sides in a mature manner, this is absolutely fine. Very obvious, really: if I think you're an ass, we probably won't make very good friends, no matter your likes/dislikes/how much you have or don't have in common with me.
So don't be afraid to get in touch - I don't bite, and I love making friends!
